Ben began performing at a young age, and his love for the arts has continued to grow ever since. He started performing in musicals when he was six, and went on to study the piano, followed by voice both in classical music and musical theater.
During high school he participated in varsity choir each year, and toured in Honolulu, Chicago, and New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama from the University of California, Irvine and was very involved in the music department, furthering his studies in Music Theory, Voice, Musicianship, Jazz History, and Music Proficiency. He was also involved in choral ensembles, most notably the Men In Blaque men’s chorus, which went to Shaoxing, China in the 2011 World Choir Games and won three gold medals.
Ben approaches lessons in a way that provides students with a well-rounded education in music, while still exploring the students’ personal interests. He addresses music theory, technique, as well as other aspects of musicianship and applies them to each of his student’s pieces, regardless of the genre or style. Ben welcomes and encourages students to approach him with any piece of music they wish to perform, and strives to bring each student to the peak of his or her potential.
