
Okay, so this isn’t exactly news, but it was certainly cool enough to share. In the kitschy sci-fi, The Fifth Element, there’s a scene where alien opera star Diva Plavalaguna sings an aria with a decidedly inhuman techno breakdown. Reputed as humanly impossible to sing, the original soundtrack was produced by digitally processing lyric soprano Inva Mula’s voice.
Then, along came Laura Workman McMurtrey. Here’s a video of her singing the entire virtuosic techno section without any kind of post-processing or enhancement.
